PART-TIME CONTRACTED GRANT WRITER
FOR BTC CENTER, INC.

Position: Part-Time Contracted Grant Writer
Organization: BTC Center, Inc.
Location: Remote / Hybrid (Pittsburgh-based candidates preferred)
Reports to: Rev. BTC Center Inc. Board
Contract Amount: $2,500 for completion of five (5) grant applications
Contract Timeline: Starting September 2025

I. ABOUT BTC CENTER, INC.
BTC Center, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to serving Pittsburgh’s East End, particularly the Homewood-Brushton community. The organization provides food security initiatives, digital literacy programs for seniors, health and wellness services, and leadership development training for local residents.
BTC Center, Inc. is seeking a part-time contracted grant writer to research, prioritize, and secure grant funding to support these programs. The grant writer will be responsible for identifying high-value funding opportunities and submitting competitive proposals that align with BTC Center’s mission.

II. POSITION OVERVIEW
The Grant Writer will focus on researching, writing, and submitting grant proposals to private foundations, government agencies, and corporate sponsors. The goal of this contract is to secure at least $50,000 in grant funding through a combination of five (5) well-researched, high-impact grant proposals targeting amounts between $10,000 and $50,000 each.

III. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Grant Research & Prioritization
• Research and prioritize at least 7–10 high-potential funding opportunities that align with BTC Center’s mission.
• Focus on grant opportunities that provide a minimum of $10,000 to maximize funding impact.
• Develop a grant application calendar to schedule strategically and track submission deadlines.
• Work with BTC Center leadership to assess funding sources based on likelihood of success and organizational fit.

2. Grant Writing & Submission
• Develop, write, and submit at least five (5) competitive grant applications by December 2025.
• Ensure grant proposals are compelling, data-driven, and aligned with funders’ priorities.
• Draft and refine proposals in collaboration with BTC Center leadership, incorporating program impact data, financials, and community needs assessments.

3. Collaboration & Reporting
• Work closely with Rev. Rodney Lyde, Stacy Harris, and BTC Center board members to gather required documents, letters of support, and project budgets.
• Provide monthly progress reports on identified grants, submissions, and follow-up actions.
• Track all grant applications, submission dates, and responses using a grant tracking system.

4. Grant Compliance & Follow-Up
• Ensure that all submitted grants comply with funders’ requirements and BTC Center’s funding priorities.
• Assist in drafting post-award reports if funding is secured.
• Maintain an organized system for tracking application outcomes, grantor feedback, and future funding cycles.

IV. QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Required:

1. Proven experience writing and securing grants for nonprofit organizations.

2. Strong research skills with the ability to identify high-value funding opportunities.
3. Excellent writing and editing skills with a track record of successful grant applications.

4. Knowledge of nonprofit program development, fundraising, and budgeting.

5. Ability to work independently and meet strict deadlines.
Preferred:

6. Familiarity with Pittsburgh-area foundations, corporate philanthropy, and government grants.

7. Experience working with small, community-based nonprofits.

8. Background in capacity-building grants for organizations expanding their services.

V. Compensation & Contract Terms
• Flat Fee: $2,500 for five (5) grant applications.
• Payment Structure:
1. $500 upon signing the contract and completion of research.
2. $400 per successful grant submission (for a total of 5 grants).
3. Bonus payment if the grant writer secures more than $50,000 in funding.
• Contract Timeline: Starting September 2025

VI. APPLICATION PROCESS

2. Resume detailing past grant writing experience and successful funding secured.

3. Sample Grant Proposal (previously submitted work, redacted if necessary).

  • BTC Center Food Pantry – 4th Saturday every month 8:30 – 10:30 am
  • PIH Garden – Schedule to be determined for 2024
  • Senior Computer Classes – Schedules to be determined for 2024
